Ranger’s First Spring Trout
Apr 27th, 2008 by Ranger Bob
Well, I finally got my first “official” fish of the season.. and first of the day! We tagged into another eight fish today and landed three. Indeed, while some folks prefer to go out and find frozen waterbodies, we’d rather spend our time more productively fly fishing the ones that we know are open.
Although the water body we fished was in full spring turnover, there was still about 4 feet of visibility. The productive patterns we took fish on again were Scratch’s “Bubble Butt” Backswimmer (well proven now) and also a Black Body Ice-Cream cone with red wire rib that matched the largish Midge hatch out here perfectly.
Another fine day on the water, no complaints here. Okay, so the water was kinda cold.. but Trout like it that way.

P.S. – Our money is on Muir Lake also being ice-free.. around midnight on May 1st. You can take that one to the bank. “The flowers are in full bloom!” ;^)
