“How many more days Sponge Bob?”
Apr 29th, 2008 by Ranger Bob

I put a 195 KM on the KIA tonight and burned up half a tank of gas checking on local lake conditions for y’all. Was my trip worth it? You bet! I learned that…
Cardiff Pond is starting to break up but is still mostly frozen, as is Chickakoo Lake and I’d give then at least two more weeks. Sauer Lake is fishable from the banks (saw some folks there tonight), and Salter’s Lake is open with fish already being reported caught (this lake also has an aerator still running).
Morinville Pond is also open on the South Shore (and again someone here was already fly fishing it). However, the nearby Morinville Game Fish & Game Association pond across the highway was still frozen up along the shores and only open in the middle where the aerator was.
Of course the bigee (yer wanting to know about), Muir Lake is coming along nicely and has open water as we projected (others here weren’t so optimistic).
No, you won’t be able to float all over the Lake… but the huge 20″ fish I seen “porpoising” around the shoreline taking Caddis Emergers tells me that the first batch of Five Year Class trout are finally nice and fat this year. So, I will also go out on a limb (not so far) and predict that you’ll finally hear that a “legal bonker” comes out of here this year as well.

Well, time to pack up our gear… the “hour of reckoning” fast approaches.
